Agreement brings Holy Cross quality to some of the nation’s largest employers
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., and DENVER, Colo. (May 18, 2017) – BridgeHealth, a leading provider of high-quality, lower-cost, bundled surgical case rate benefit plans, has designated Holy Cross Hospital, along with the Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute, a National Center of Excellence (COE) for hip and knee replacement surgery.
Eligible employees and dependents of employers nationwide who are BridgeHealth clients can travel to Holy Cross for hip and knee replacements. Patients and employers pay a pre-negotiated rate that should result in measurable savings to the employer and the patient. Patients choosing Holy Cross will be supported by BridgeHealth Care Coordinators who will handle administrative tasks—including travel and accommodations—provide guidance and enhance the patient surgical experience.
“Holy Cross is committed to ensuring that our patients experience better health, better care and lower costs,” said Patrick A. Taylor, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Holy Cross Hospital. “Our approach aligns with BridgeHealth’s aim to bring higher quality healthcare to communities while reducing costs to plan members and plan sponsors.”
Holy Cross Hospital consistently ranks among the nation’s top hospitals for orthopedic services and joint replacement due to its low complication rates and better than expected outcomes. U.S. News & World Report recently named Holy Cross Hospital a nationally high-performing hospital in both hip and knee replacement surgery.
“There is great variation in the quality of care and surgical outcomes through providers in employers’ broad-network PPO plans,” said Mark Stadler, Chief Executive Officer of BridgeHealth. “BridgeHealth’s Centers of Excellence include Holy Cross and other hospitals that rank in the top quartile of the country’s providers, according to an independent, nationally recognized quality rating organization. BridgeHealth uniquely enables the high-quality, lower-cost care for U.S. employers.”
Holy Cross Hospital is one of 25 among the nation’s roughly 3,400 hospitals, and the only one in South Florida, to be recognized by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as performing better than the U.S. national rate for avoiding both 30-day risk standardized readmission and complications following total hip and total knee replacement surgery.
As healthcare costs continue to rise, healthcare organizations recognize the need to transform the way they approach and manage care delivery and healthcare benefits in order to keep treatment affordable for everyone.
To achieve this, BridgeHealth has been a recognized leader in contracting with providers for bundled case rates: combining the various charges for orthopedic, spine, women’s health, bariatric, cardiac, neurological and general surgical procedures into a single discounted price. Combining these pre-negotiated case rate bundles for major surgery with top-rated healthcare providers offers employers, employees and dependents the best possible service value: high-quality and low-cost care.
Through narrow network agreements, Holy Cross Hospital contracts directly with self-insured employers to negotiate bundled cases (an all-inclusive fee for a surgical case and affiliated health care services), thereby reducing the cost of healthcare for employers and their employees, while maintaining high quality outcomes.
